“Foul-Smelling Mush”: Dad And Teen Teach Controlling Mom A Lesson To Never Put A Tracker On Them Again

Worrying about your kids is normal for any parent. As long as those thoughts and feelings don’t grow into something overbearing, of course. Like, a desire to start secretly tracking them.

In this story, a controlling ex-wife put an AirTag in her daughter’s backpack for a trip with her father.

However, the two of them discovered the device and came up with a funny way to teach the lady a lesson.

To learn more about these situations, Bored Panda also got in touch with Hara Estroff Marano, the editor-at-large of Psychology Today and author of A Nation of Wimps: The High Cost of Invasive Parenting. Don’t miss our conversation!

Helicopter parenting stems from parents’ anxiety

Hara Estroff Marano says that helicopter parenting is all about wanting the best for your child. The parents who do it are just going about it the wrong way. “The parents are not ill-motivated; they just happen to be 100 percent wrong about the way to produce successful adults.”

“For example, they take all the [child’s free] play out of childhood, believing it is a waste of time,” Marano points out. “In fact, free play builds happy, active children with agile brains, precisely what is needed for the dynamic economy and jobscape we inhabit.”

“In addition, in the belief that they are smoothing the path to success for their kids, they take all the lumps and bumps out of their lives. That, however, deprives children of the ordinary little challenges of life through which people normally not only learn to cope with life’s vicissitudes but gain the confidence that they can.”

Overprotective parents are so because of their own anxiety. “[It] constricts their vision and tightens their grip,” Marano explains. “Parents can’t trust that kids will grow up OK and figure out how to manage by themselves because the parents are anxious about their children.”

It deprives children of their independence and infantilizes them

“We are not and have not been living in a culture of optimism for some time, so parents’ concerns about their kids’ future are somewhat understandable,” Marano says.

“However, it is always the job of parents to filter the culture for children and prepare them for independence. You do not make children independent by removing challenges from their lives but by allowing children to approach and master them.”

Marano explains that helicopter parenting infantilizes children. “[It] deprives them of opportunities to learn how to cope with life’s challenges and kills confidence in their ability to cope.”

No wonder young people are having more mental health problems. “They have terrible self-esteem and high levels of anxiety and depression,” she adds. “They have an oversized fear of failure because they’ve never been afforded the opportunity to learn that you can mess up and still survive, even thrive.”

“It is indeed ironic that helicopter parents, who want only the best for their kids, wind up bringing out the worst in them.”

AirTags might seem like a godsend for anxious parents, but experts caution against using them to spy on children

AirTags can be a convenient way to locate lost items. But some parents have been using trackers to keep tabs on their kids, just as the mother in this story did. There’s been a debate going on for the past several years: is it morally wrong to put a tracker on a child, or is it a godsend to anxious parents who worry about their kids getting kidnapped?

Parents who put AirTags on their kids defend their decision by saying that to be a parent is to worry constantly about your child’s safety. Strangers, sketchy situations, and children’s bad decisions who knows what can happen to a kid when they’re alone? And AirTags can take some of that pressure off worried parents.

Yet experts say that it’s not the best strategy to guarantee your child’s safety. Lenore Skenazy, the president of Let Grow, told Fox26 Houston that tracking your child can definitely make them feel uncomfortable. “A kid who’s being watched all the time is not a kid who has a chance to prove to themselves, and to their parents, that they really are responsible. It changes the relationship between you and the child, even subtly.”

Interestingly, research shows that the world has never been safer for children than it is today. The biggest threat a child faces today is an accident, whether in a car, by drowning, in a fire, or due to something else. The odds of someone abducting a child are equal to getting hit by lightning, as in 2017, one out of every 293,800 minors was a victim of abduction by a stranger.

Using AirTags to keep tabs on your kid isn’t foolproof either. AirTags can get stolen, and children can lose them together with their belongings. However, the trackers don’t provide a person’s or an object’s real-time location. A parent can only see their child’s last known location if they choose to use an AirTag.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.

Barbie Dream Fest Blasted As “The Next Willy Wonka Experience” After Guests Left Fuming

What was meant to be a glittery, dream-come-true event for fans quickly unraveled into a full-blown controversy, as the much-hyped Barbie Dream Fest has now gone viral as a “nightmare” event.

Attendees who arrived expecting a magical, Barbie-inspired spectacle instead left frustrated, harshly slamming the event and comparing it to the “disastrous” 2024 Willy Wonka Experience, despite the hefty ticket prices.

Highlights

  • What was promised to be a dream event quickly unraveled into chaos, with attendees calling Barbie Dream Fest a full-blown “nightmare.”
  • From pricey tickets to underwhelming setups, the experience left fans questioning how such a highly anticipated event went so wrong.
  • As backlash exploded online, many couldn’t help but compare the fiasco to the infamous 2024 Willy Wonka Experience.

One netizen jokingly reacted to the controversy, writing, “People didn’t learn from the Charlie and the chocolate factory event.”

Some fans reportedly spent over $1,000 to attend the “disastrous” Barbie Dream Fest in Florida last week

The event was held over the weekend, from March 27 to 29, at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale.

It was created by Mischief Management, a New York-based company known for producing fan conventions like BroadwayCon and GeekyCon, which licensed the brand from Mattel for the event.

Ticket prices reportedly ranged from $72 for a single-day pass to around $500 for the premium “Dream Pass.”

On top of the hefty entry prices, several fans reported spending well over $1,000 in total, as the event attracted attendees from across the country.

One fan on Reddit detailed spending $300 on a three-day pass and $600 on a hotel room, reaching $1,000 before even arriving at the event.

Another “superfan,” who flew in from New York with friends, reported spending roughly $2,000 in total on the trip.

The event was first announced in October last year, with ticket prices ranging from $72 for a single-day pass to around $500 for a VIP pass

However, while fans were promised an “interactive Dreamhouse,” an “’80s roller disco,” a “premium swag bag,” and “a glam bar,” among other experiences, attendees slammed the event as a “nightmare” due to a stark lack of the “immersive” experience they had expected.

According to multiple complaints, the “life-sized Barbie Dreamhouse” was described as a flat cardboard backdrop with a picnic table on fake turf.

Photos shared online showed a massive, mostly empty concrete warehouse floor with minimal décor, including pink traffic cones and a roped-off pink Volkswagen van that guests couldn’t even enter.

VIP guests reported that their promised luxury “swag” bags contained only basic items, such as a plastic hairbrush and generic hand sanitizer.

Meanwhile, the ’80s roller disco turned out to be a kids-only roller rink, with no music or special lighting.

One attendee from Ohio, Michael Gorey, told The Times that he flew in with his wife and daughters but was left unimpressed upon arriving at the venue.

One commenter reacted, “People didn’t learn from the Charlie and the chocolate factory event”

His first thought was, “Is this it? Like, did I miss something?”

Others voiced their complaints on the event’s official Instagram page, where it had been marketed in October last year as “Join us for three days of glam, nostalgia, and dream-big energy made for Barbie fans of every generation.”

One person commented on the post, “This was honestly so insulting to arrive after paying almost $80 for it to be soooo underwhelming with the lack of effort in decorations and nothing entertaining to do for anyone.”

Another user said, “They really should give everyone a ‘I survived Barbie Nightmare Fest’ stickers. WE GOT WONKA’D!”

“Reminds me of SpongeBob Squarepants episode with Mr Krabs doing Krabbyland and it was a disaster and he took the kids’ money and left lol,” a third joked.

“2026 version of Willy Wonka Experience just dropped,” one person said, while another added, “It’s gonna be a Netflix documentary, I can see it now.”

Another comment read, “Fyre Festival: Barbie Edition. At least at Fyre they got a cheese sandwich. Here you just get to stare at a cardboard box for the price of a mortgage payment.”

“Learned nothing from Fyre or Willy Wonka did we? Sadly I don’t trust none of these anymore! I’ll just chill at home or take a cruise.”

The Barbie Dream Fest is now being heavily compared to the Willy Wonka Experience that took place in February 2024 in Glasgow.

The event, organized by a company called House of Illuminati, was promoted using dreamlike, vibrant AI-generated images.

In reality, however, the venue turned out to be a sparse, gray warehouse with a few cheap plastic props and a single bouncy castle.

One of the most infamous parts of that controversy was a character named “The Unknown,” described as an “evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls.”

The fest was dubbed a “nightmare” by many attendees, sparking comparisons to the 2024 Willy Wonka Experience

This character, one that does not exist in any Wonka lore, was portrayed by a 16-year-old actor in a silver mask who jumped out from behind a mirror, reportedly scaring children into tears.

The event was so poorly received that angry parents allegedly called the police to the scene, and it was shut down halfway through its first day.

As the Barbie event faced similar backlash, both Mischief Management and Mattel announced that all ticket holders would receive full refunds.

A Mattel spokesperson said in a public statement, “We are working with Mischief Management, who are managing attendee feedback and issuing full refunds to everyone who purchased tickets. We want every fan experience to be an excellent one.”

Meanwhile, a statement from the organizers read, “Mischief Management is incredibly grateful to everyone who joined Barbie Dream Fest.”

“Bringing fans together — alongside Barbie role models, designers, partners, and global icons who embody the true spirit of Barbie — was at the heart of this event.”

The statement concluded, “Barbie Dream Fest was created as an intimate fan convention designed to foster meaningful connection, inspiration, and closer access to Barbie and her world. We will be providing full refunds to everyone who purchased tickets.”

“When you paid $100 to stand in a pink box and take a photo you could’ve taken at home with a cardboard cutout,” wrote one user

My Watches, My Memories – PLAYWORKEATREPEAT

After getting my new Swatch recently, I started thinking about all the watches I’ve owned over the years. Each one holds a special memory. Not just because they were all gifts from family, but also because they mark important phases in my life.

They do more than tell the time (and show how late I’m running). Every watch has marked a special moment for me. So I thought I’d take you on a little museum tour of the watches that have ticked along with me over the years. Let’s go!

My Watches, My Memories

1982 Casio

My uncle bought me my first ever grown-up watch for Christmas way back in 1982. It was a Casio digital watch, and  I remember being super excited to own such a high-tech watch! Being a kid and not having to worry about confusing old-fashioned clock faces was also a bonus.

I wore it everywhere for years… and then I lost it. It just disappeared, and I looked everywhere but couldn’t find it. One day, I was helping my mum defrost the old-fashioned freezer section in the fridge. There it was, right at the back. Go figure.

Swatch

By the time I was 15, Swatch watches were all the rage, and almost everyone at school had one. Fashion and trends ruled, so I said goodbye to my high-tech digital watch and happily went back to a traditional one. For my 15th birthday, my mum let me choose my very own Swatch, and I couldn’t have been more excited.

If you’re from my era, the good old 80s, you might remember how colourful everything was. Neon and bold prints were everywhere. I remember standing at the Grace Bros counter trying to decide which Swatch to buy. There were so many to choose from! But even then, I preferred safer, neutral colours, so in the end I chose a grey one with colourful hands.

Seiko

I’ve owned my silver Seiko since I was 23, and more than 30 years later, it’s still my favourite watch. My mum gave it to me for Christmas all those years ago, and I’ve treasured it ever since. Wearing it feels like carrying a little piece of her with me.

I’ve even attached a silver bracelet, a gift from another uncle, and I wear them together. I love how the watch feels on my wrist. It’s loose enough to be comfortable but secure enough that I never worry about losing it.

Apple Watch

my watches post- Apple Watch

I didn’t rush out to buy an Apple Watch when they first came out. I love new technology, but I usually only invest in it if I know it will make a real difference to my life.

That turned out to be the case when my mum was living with us, and age was sadly catching up with her. There were times when she was home by herself, so to make sure she was safe, we got her a personal alarm that she wore around her neck on a lanyard. If she had a fall, it would automatically alert me through my mobile phone.

The tricky part was that I wasn’t allowed to carry a mobile phone with me at work. So the perfect solution was an Apple Watch, which my husband bought for me. Any alerts could come straight to my wrist.

It worked well, and I clearly remember the time my watch started buzzing to tell me that my mum had fallen, sending me into instant panic. Luckily, I live only a short three-minute drive away, so I raced home and found her completely safe. Phew!

Turns out she’d had a moment and, annoyed at the alarm dangling around her neck, threw it onto the bed, setting it off. What a relief to see her perfectly okay, even if she was a bit miffed about the whole thing.

2026 Swatch

In 2026, new child safety regulations mean we aren’t allowed to wear smart watches at work anymore. My Apple Watch had to retire.

I was sad to say goodbye because I also liked seeing how many steps I got in each day, usually well over 10,000, because we really are on the go, go, go.

Then, when my birthday came up, I was feeling nostalgic about my long-gone teen years. I decided the cure for nostalgia was to revisit a fun time and go all out with a colourful Swatch I never would have had the courage to pick back then. I was so shy, I didn’t even want to draw attention to my wrists!

Bright, Bold and Beyond

And now I’ve come full circle and am the happy owner of a very bright pink Swatch watch that my boys bought me. Picking a bright colour like this is a big deal for me. It kind of signals a new phase in my life, when I’m feeling braver and going outside my comfort zone.

I’ve always played it safe, and while I’m not booking any bungee jumping experiences anytime soon, I know that since last year, I’ve been much more open to trying new things and embracing new adventures.

I’ll always be on the reserved side, at least until I get to know someone, but I’m totally okay with drawing attention to my wrists now.

And that sums up all the watches I’ve owned. These days, my bright pink Swatch is my everyday watch, the Seiko comes out for special occasions, and the Apple Watch is mostly a weekend watch. If I remember, I will sometimes wear it to and from work to track steps.

Each one of my watches reminds me of a different time in my life, the people who gave it to me, and the moments that made it special.

Wearing them now feels like I’m carrying a little piece of my past, my present, and a hint of the fun times and adventures ahead—yay! Who knew watches could be little time machines of memories?

“A Waste Of A Pretty Face”: Man Throws Away Wife’s Sentimental Puzzle, Acts Surprised When She Asks For A Divorce

Having different interests from your partner isn’t ‘wrong.’ In fact, it can be quite healthy. Having separate hobbies allows you to try new things and grow as an individual. Some therapists argue that couples who have too much in common can often become bored in the relationship.

However, internet user Mother_Negotiation42’s husband was far from supportive of her leisure activities. He often made snarky remarks about her staying at home and working on her puzzles. Eventually, they got into a huge fight about it, and she realized that she loathed the person she had been married to for 6 years.

Scroll down to read the full story, including our interviews with the author of the story, Mother_Negotiation42, as well as relationship expert, founder, and CEO of Couples Experience, Tamika Carlton, who kindly told us more about couples and hobbies.

After receiving many questions, the wife provided more information on the matter

Her interest in puzzles started when she was young, in a small, rainy village where there wasn’t much to do

Image source: natanavo (not the actual photo)

Bored Panda reached out to the original author of the story, Mother_Negotiation42, who kindly agreed to share more details about it. Firstly, we were curious to know what inspired her to take this online in the first place.

“I shared the story out of a place of deep frustration. At the time I wrote it, I still hadn’t had a proper conversation with my husband, and many people were telling me that I was wrong for looking into divorce so quickly. The comment that bothered me the most was made by one of his ex-girlfriends, with whom we both stayed friends. She told me I should be grateful for the “smooth sailing” relationship we’ve had and that I shouldn’t throw it all away over a silly puzzle fixation.”

She explains that her interest in puzzles started when she was young. She was growing up in a small, rainy village where there wasn’t much to do, especially being the only child. “I’d spend a lot of time doing board games with my grandma, who lived with us at the time, but I’d always had the most fun when spending time on these puzzles.”

Having taken her story online, she felt seen and validated in the decision she was going to make. “I knew from the very beginning that I wasn’t going to make my decision based solely on the replies I got from this post, but I wanted to know if I was completely incorrect in the whole situation because it felt like everyone in my life at the time was telling me so.”

Separate hobbies might bring frustration into a relationship

Image source: YuriArcursPeopleimages (not the actual photo)

We also contacted relationship expert, founder, and CEO of Couples Experience, Tamika Carlton, who kindly agreed to tell us more about couples and hobbies. She believes that having separate hobbies can be helpful. “When you are in a healthy partnership and relationship, somehow, you begin to gain interest in what one another loves. It really is a result of spending quality time with one another. I also suggest introducing each other to what you love. That will create a deeper bond between you and your partner.

But what if this fails and the other person starts to voice frustrations about your dissimilar activities? Carlton suggests, “It’s important for your partner to have their own individual identity and not have to conform to what you love, so don’t force it.

It’s also essential to pick your battles and only address the foundational issues that are really bothering you. Most times, if your partner doesn’t share your interests or hobbies, it is not a true concern. It is likely more about wanting to feel connected to them and to have something that the two of you can enjoy together. Rather than attempt to force your partner to love what you love, find a different hobby that can be of interest to you both. “

With some creativity, separate hobbies and relationships can be perfectly compatible

Image source: nd3000 (not thea actual photo)

One way to feel connected even though the partners don’t share the same activities is to explore new things together. Carlton explains, “I always suggest couples expand their normal day-to-day activities and give something new a try. There are SO many things that you can do these days. From museums to bar crawls to sharing an evening or weekend in a nearby town you’ve never been to before to simply go to see a show at the theater or even the couples experience, a subscription gift box provides you with a number of date night ideas without you even having to leave the house.

The point is that it’s best to be open to experiencing something new together. Step out of your comfort zone together and see how much your connection shifts for the better. I remember Logan and I went zip-lining together in Costa Rica. This was literally not what either one of us would have ever done before, but there was something intriguing that occurred when we tackled our fears together. The bond between us got even deeper.”

Commenters were saying that the wife wasn’t wrong for wanting a divorce and that the puzzle was the least of their problems

Friday Favourites – PLAYWORKEATREPEAT

Hi friends! This week did not exactly sparkle, but there were still many bright spots that got me through. One of the great things about joining this link-up is that it makes you pause and notice the good things instead of dwelling on everything that didn’t go quite right. So here are a few of my Friday favourites.

Autumn is Coming

Just this week, I’ve noticed a change in the weather. The mornings and evenings are getting cooler, although the days are still very warm and the humidity is hanging around. My personal humidity indicator, which just so happens to be my hair, confirms this.

Even after a keratin treatment, when it’s humid, my fringe still curls and pokes directly into my left eye (very annoying). Thankfully, it’s nowhere near as bad as the pre-keratin days when my hair would boof out completely. Small wins.

It’s also getting darker a little earlier, and for the first time ever, I’m not sad about the shift from summer to winter. My recent run-in with a giant cockroach, along with the relentless humidity, has definitely made me a lot more open to cooler weather.

Or maybe it’s just that our trip is coming up soon, and we’re heading into spring in Singapore and Japan. That’s definitely helping me not grumble about the change.

I Found a New Show

Monday night, I was home by myself, so I ate my dinner while watching another episode of Happy Valley. Have you seen this fantastic British crime show? It’s so good. For some reason, I thought it was a comedy because of the name. And as I was flicking around on Binge trying to find something to watch, I figured I’d give this “comedy” a go. Well, it’s far from a comedy, but it’s definitely the best crime show I’ve watched in ages, and I’m hooked.

Oh, and my cottage pie with salad was pretty good too.

Mid-Week Dinner Catch-Up

Our friends invited us over for dinner on Wednesday night, and I loved having a little midweek plan to look forward to. To start, we had olives grown and pickled by them, with taramasalata and crackers.

I asked where the crackers came from because they were so delicious, and would you believe they were homemade? Our friends not only pickle their own olives, they also make sourdough. The crackers were made from leftover sourdough mix, with a few seeds added. Wow!

They surprised me with a belated birthday present.

I said, “Let’s open it now,” and we sure did!

positive moments post- dinner and margaritas

Dinner Out

Thursday night, we had a staff meeting, and it was hard to concentrate because I was hungry and already looking forward to dinner out with my husband at a local Japanese restaurant. Ramen and gyozas for us, all “research” to compare when we go to Japan 😉

positive moments post-gyoza

Cockatoos

One day, when I really needed a laugh, I saw this crazy cockatoo hanging upside down on the electricity line outside my house. It almost did a full 360 trying to nibble at the wire. It made me LOL, and it felt so good.

positive moments post-cockatoo

Positive Vibes

And I got another belated birthday present from my son. He tidied his gaming room and came out with this positive peas (well, technically one tiny crocheted pea, but the sign says “positive peas”). He said he bought it to go with the Swatch watch he and his brother gave me, and then forgot. I really needed this little positive pea in my life. Isn’t it the cutest? She now lives on my desk, and I love her.

positive moments post-crotcheted toy

And those were a few of my small, simple, but much-needed highlights from the week.

This positive pea is signing off and wishing you all the happiest of weekends!

PakarPBN

Trigger warning: this article contains graphic details that may be distressing to some.

Joseph Garrett Duggar was accused of “lewd and lascivious behavior, involving unlawful s*xual activity with a minor,” the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

He was arrested in Arkansas, where he lives with his wife Kendra (née Caldwell), and their children, Garrett, 7, and daughters Addison, 6, and Brooklyn, 4.

The couple may reportedly have a fourth child but have not publicly confirmed the information.

Joseph was on a family vacation in Florida in 2020 when he allegedly behaved inappropriately with a minor girl, aged 9 at the time.

The group was staying at a residence on Danny Drive in Panama City Beach, and Joseph allegedly asked the child to sit on his lap on multiple occasions.

At one point during the vacation, he was sitting on the couch and allegedly asked the girl to sit next to him.

Joseph then covered them with a blanket and “manipulated the victim’s underwear.”

He touched her private parts and rubbed his hands on her thighs at the time, the sheriff’s office said.

As per the victim’s account, Joseph later apologized for his actions, and the ab*sive behavior stopped.

Years later, authorities got involved after the victim’s father confronted Joseph on March 17, 2026.

The reality TV star “admitted his actions” to the father and law enforcement officials as well.

The victim, now 14, participated in a forensic interview and “disclosed several incidents involving Duggar that occurred during a family vacation.”

Following the out-of-state arrest, Joseph was “charged with lewd and lascivious behavior – m*lestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older,” the sheriff’s office said.

He is expected to be extradited to Bay County, Florida.

The family vacation in question took place years after Joseph and Kendra tied the knot in 2017.

After first meeting in church, Joseph reportedly courted her for months and proposed to her at his sister Joy-Anna’s wedding.

They were married within a few months of the proposal. Joseph was 23 and Kendra was 19.

Viewers of TLC’s spin-off show, Counting On, watched the bride’s father, a pastor, marry them in one of the episodes.

The disturbing allegations against Joseph echoed previous scandals involving the Duggar family

Joseph was one of 19 siblings who gained fame through the long-running show 19 Kids and Counting.

The series followed their ultra-conservative parents, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, over 10 seasons from 2008 to 2015.

19 Kids and Counting was axed after revelations about the oldest Duggar child, Josh Duggar, having behaved inappropriately with five children. Four of the victims were his own sisters.

Josh was sentenced to 12 and a half years in federal prison in 2022 for receiving and possessing material depicting children engaging in s*xually explicit content.

“I wonder if these boys experienced something traumatic in their childhood,” one commenter said

The news of Joseph’s arrest led to massive speculation about the Duggar family online.

Another claimed there was “Always was something a bit ‘off’ with that family….”

“Run Kendra Run,” one said. Another wrote, “19 felonies and counting.”

“Seems to be a common theme and reoccurrence in their family,” one said. “Seems from what I remember they started with m*lesting their sisters. And the parents did nothing about it!”

“Yall didn’t actually think that Josh was the ONLY one .. their Dad is creepy as f***,” another said.

“Is ‘19 Kids and Counting’ the name of the show or the sons’ rap sheet?” a social media user asked

Friday Favourites – PLAYWORKEATREPEAT

Hi friends! I can hardly believe it’s FRIDAY, and it truly feels like I blinked and the week just whooshed by. I always have the best intentions to write this post throughout the week, kind of like a little diary of favourite things from each day. The sensible, easiest way to do it, right?

Yet here I am like the high schooler I once was, leaving my assignment to the last minute. Not that blogging is an assignment I have to complete. No, not at all. But I would love to be more organised and consistent like I used to be.

Anyway, it’s Friday afternoon, I’ve just gotten home from work, and I can see I’ve only taken a couple of blurry photos this week. Which is all ok because I’m sure I can remember some of this week’s highlights without as many visual prompts as I wish I had. Hmm, let’s test the old noggin, shall we…

Monday

Monday is a blur, but I do remember getting my Share Our Lives post written. It was fun to talk about some of the things I frequently buy at the supermarket. I also enjoyed reading what everyone else shared in the link-up. Grocery item talk is my love language.

Tuesday

Tuesday was a work-from-home day, which always makes me feel like a grown-up. Hi, I’m Ruth, and yes, I’m a grown-up who worked from home on Tuesday. I guess working in preschool makes me feel like an eternal kid.

But twice a year, when we have to write up developmental summaries, I get to do it at home in the quiet, without the constant noise and hustle and bustle. It was so quiet my ears were ringing, and I also felt like I was jigging school.

Wednesday

Wednesday was a treat because I had an appointment at the hairdresser’s for a proper colour treatment. I usually do it myself, and the last time I had my hair professionally coloured was about 20 years ago. My mum and I would go together, and I loved those times spent getting colour and highlights with her. I really miss those days. You know what they say about the good old days. You don’t realise you are living them while they are happening. Treasure every minute with your favourite people!

I was very happy with my glossy brown hair and sooo happy to say goodbye to the brassy post-keratin-treated hair.

Thursday

I had been looking forward to Thursday all week. I discovered that my favourite restaurant, No Names, which closed down about 10 years ago, was actually operating at the Erskineville Bowling Club.

Friday nostalgic favourites - No Names restaurant sign

Let me backtrack a few decades and explain a little about this iconic Sydney restaurant.

A Little Backstory

No Names was a tiny Italian restaurant tucked away in Darlinghurst. The tables were crammed together, and the décor was completely non-existent. Think 1970s Formica tables with mismatched chairs. A bit like the Brady Bunch kitchen table gone wrong.

Then there were the grumpiest waiters in the universe. They would slide the cutlery across the table with such force, and I’m convinced they secretly wanted to throw it at the customers. The menu was simple. Spaghetti bolognese, veal or chicken schnitzel, a half-and-half combo of spaghetti and schnitzel, and oh yes, they also offered fried liver with onion. I always had the, you guessed it…bolognese!

This was no ordinary bolognese sauce. It was pure magic, probably made from a recipe passed down from many Nonnas. They also gave you free chunky bread with butter and red or green cordial to drink.

Oh my gosh, I loved this place so much, and I’m so happy I got to enjoy it from childhood into adulthood.

If I ever had a choice between a fancy-hatted restaurant or No Names in Darlinghurst, it would have been a no-brainer. No Names would have gotten my vote hands down.

So you can understand my excitement for Thursday night. And then, like all good memories, mine probably should have stayed back there with my last visit a month or so before it closed in Darlinghurst. I missed the waiters. These were too smiley. The décor was dated but still too fancy, and the spaghetti wasn’t as saucy as it used to be. The bread was different, and there was no cordial. I was forced to drink wine 😜

I know for sure I don’t want to go back, and even though I feel sad about times gone by, I’m glad that I was able to enjoy a piece of history and have great memories. So it was still a nice Thursday evening out with my non-bolognese-loving family. Haha, Steve ordered the schnitzel, and Sam ordered the burger. Yep, they expanded the menu.

Wrapping Up

And those were some of my highlights and favourites from the week. They were a bit nostalgic, weren’t they?

Now it’s time for me to sign off and go unpack my groceries that arrived. Don’t worry, I dashed up mid-post and put the refrigerator and freezer items away.

Then I’m going to have a shower, eat dinner in front of the TV, and make sure to make the most of the current good old days. How was your week? I hope it was a good one.
